Night Gallery is pleased to present a re-staging of Derek Boshier’s Journey/Israel Project installation originally exhibited at the Miskan Le Ormanut Museum of Art, Ein Harod, Israel in 1996. Journey / Israel Project is an installation made from 93 images that follows the journey of the Jewish people from Auschwitz to Israel. These images, which are a combination of photographs and drawings, are placed linearly along the walls of the gallery. As the viewer follows the sequence of images, Boshier’s poignant re-telling of the story becomes unfurled through a series of uncanny formal transitions. Journey / Israel Project is as much about changing landscapes as it is about the Jewish struggle and represents an important part of Boshier’s oeuvre.
Derek Boshier began his career exhibiting in London in the 1960s after graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1959, where he studied alongside fellow Pop artists David Hockney and RB Kitaj. Derek has shown extensively in the U.S. and Europe, most recently at The National Portrait Gallery in London. His work has been acquired by The Menil (Houston, TX), The Tate Gallery of British Art and The British Museum (London), The Brooklyn Museum (New York), and The Centre Pompidou (Paris), among many other collections. He lives and works in Los Angeles.
